Instructions
  1. Ingredients:

    Roast and grind

    Chana dal - 2 tbsp
    Coriander seeds(Dhania) - 1 tbsp
    Fenugreek seeds(Vendayam) 1/8tsp
    Redchilli - 3nos
    For more spice you can add 4-5 red chilli
    Pepper - 1/4tsp
    Curry leaves - Few

    Kathirikai Gothsu

    Tamarind - small gooseberry size
    Brinjal (medium size) - 5 nos(Finely chopped)
    Onion (medium size) - 5 nos(Finely chopped)
    Oil - 3tbsp
    Mustard - 1tsp
    Urad dal- 1tsp
    Channa dal - 1 tsp
    Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
    Curry leaves - Few
    Turmeric powder - 1/2tsp
    Salt - 1tsp
    Hing(Asafoetida) - pinch

  2. Procedure:

    First let's prepare masala powder for Kathirikai Gothsu

    Dry Roast in low to medium flame
    Heat a pan, add Coriander seeds(Dhania) - 1 tbsp
    Add Chana dal - 2 tbsp
    Add Fenugreek seeds(Vendayam) - 1/8tsp
    Add pepper - 1/4 tsp
    Add redchilli - 3nos
    (For more spice you can add 4-5 red chilli)
    Now add few curry leaves
    Dry Roast in low to medium flame
    Allow to cool completely.
    Transfer to the blender.
    Grind coarsely, Keep aside.

    Now let's prepare Kathirikai Gothsu for Ven Pongal

    Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pan
    Add 1 tsp mustard seeds, Once the seed pops out
    Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    Add 1 tsp urad dal
    Add 1 tsp chana dal
    Saute well, Turns aromatic
    Now Add 5 finely chopped medium size onions
    Add 1 tsp salt
    Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    Add Asafoetida(Hing) a pinch
    Now add few curry leaves
    Saute until the onions becomes translucent.
    Now add 5 finely chopped medium size brinjal(Kathirikai),
    saute well.
    Brinjal color changes slightly
    (Take Tamarind small gooseberry size, soak in 1/2 cup hot water for 30 minutes)
    Add tamarind extract, cook till raw flavour leaves completely.
    Now add the coarsely grounded powder.
    Mix well.
    Cook for 5 - 10 minutes in medium flame.
    Once it doesn't stick to pan switch off the flame.
    Our delicious Kathirikai Gothsu is ready to serve!!!
